Knowledge-Information-Data [K.I.D]

what is data, information, knowledge..?

Data is a gathered body of Facts

Data is raw content or inputs obtained by any means. For example finding out the customer's requirement by means of Market Research

Data can exist in a variety of forms as numbers, symbols, text on a piece of paper, bytes stored in electronic memory or facts stored in a person's mind.
There are many ways of getting data and the most popular technique is Data Mining. By data mining information can be visualized and knowledge can be discovered. (FAYYAD..et al,2002)

The word knowledge has various meaning, knowledge at its simplest level is the knowing something or be familiar with the facts, this term is commonly referred to as "Know About" (NICKOLS,2000). Knowledge at next level means the ability to grasp the facts or understand the methods, techniques and apply them suitably when required, this term is commonly referred to as "Know how". Knowledge also means collection or accumulation of facts, methods, techniques etc.. and these type of knowledge are usually found in the form of books, journals, formulas.

  1. I agree with you Abhijith, I think KID's are all interconnected. For example, knowledge is obtained from data and information BUT how can we determine data and information generates knowledge. This is like for example which came first, the egg or the chicken?

  2. KID Stuff`s so intertwined, that differentiating among them is dicey, but you`ve given it a simplified defination which i agree with.
Knowledge really can be defined as the "know about". I heard a saying which goes as thus "the difference between not performing and performing well is knowledge. so to reinvent and better an organisation knowledge is needed

  3. i mentioned knowledge auditing in my article, which means knowledge deleting and adding new

Description of KID are nice and I agree with your definitions. Perhaps you can expand on these terms by giving more expample of their use from your personal experience and also include some description from the perspectives of an organisation of your choice. You can read on the changing nature of KID from the following link:
